Very thoughtfully designed and decorated home. Has everything you need for daily life and easy access to things around town. I would stay here again! - 2022-07-26
“Really Lovely” Difficult to find better place to stay in Kyoto! Great little house, with everything you can think of, quiet, with a great host. Shimpei has made the place a true perfection. - 2022-05-20
My family (husband and 1.5 yr old) really loved staying in Shimpei place. It was a perfect calming house to counter our busy crazy Tokyo adventure. We really liked that it wasn't in downtown Kyoto and instead it's where Japanese people live, bike, and shop. Even as we were walking down the street a particularly friendly neighbor brought us out a bag of Japan's national fruit, persimmon (and everyone in the area was very friendly). The house itself is very cool and well designed, and highly functional for cooking and relaxing. Shimpei was a great host meeting us at the house, showing us how every device worked, and answering our questions with lightening speed. If you are looking for something a bit more relaxing and authentic than a city center I would highly recommend Shimpei's place. We didn't have a chance to use the bikes, but I think it's fantastic that he offers them as many people bike in the neighborhood (although there was a grocery store just down the block so we walked everywhere with our stroller 😉 ). - 2020-06-16

This home was perfect for my family's one-month stay. The home's owner has thought of so many wonderful details - we were so impressed. It's a modern, cozy, and peaceful home. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking, the bedrooms are very comfortable, the home is clean, and the washer/dryer are high quality. The area is quiet, residential, and very convenient for our slow-paced travel. It had everything we needed within walking or a short bike ride (grocery stores, dollar store, drugstore, restaurants). If we went elsewhere in town we used bikes to get to the subway or commuted into Kyoto along the river. We cannot recommend highly enough. - 2020-06-16

My Pavilion to Arashiyama & Gion (Ryorizuki-no-ie) 京都西院料理好きの家 3LDK-75m2, 1-6 persons 3 min walk from Hankyu Saiin station
This property is a real find. The location is a bit off from central Kyoto, but in time you’ll find the strategic benefits of staying here. There are tons of buses that will take you to the center in a mere few stops; additionally, it’s only one train ride to Arashiyama.
Now, the property itself is truly a gem. From the outside, it is a traditional ‘machiya’ style home. However, the interior has been completely renovated. The modern island kitchen has everything you need to whip up an extravagant meal (sans the cooking skills, that’s up to you). Basic condiments are provided, which is a definite plus.
Bathroom has uber-modern facilities and lots of amenities. Living room has a large screen television. My favorite corner of the house was the wood deck terrace where you can enjoy breakfast, and the tearoom in front of the small garden.
Second floor has 2 bedrooms, in addition to an open space that can accommodate an extra bed.
I’d definitely come back again. Wonderful! - 2022-03-27

Nanni Saiin Machiya 南二西院町屋 3LDK-75m2, 1-6 persons 3 min walk from Hankyu Saiin station
Location in the city
This is a Kyoto map to show where the accommdations are located relative to the entire city as well as to major scenic/historic spots.
“My Pavilion to Arashiyama and Gion 京都西院料理好きの家” and the next door “Nanni Saiin Machiya 南二西院町屋” are conveniently located (just 3 min walk) from Saiin station of Hankyu line connecting Kyoto with Osaka. The station is directly connected with Arashiyama (19 min) with Randen tram and Shijo/Gion/Kawaramachi (5 – 6 min) with Hankyu line. Nijo castle, one of the 17 World Heritages in the city, is just 20 min walk away.
“Your Pavilion near Kinkakuji 大徳寺北側清寂の家” is a bit away from the central downtown but conveniently located if you explore the north including the three World Heritage in the area (Kamigamo/Shimogamo shrines and Golden Pavilion) as well as Kamogawa river. The accommodation is also suitable for visiting Kurama, Kibune, Ohara, and Takao, the four major annexes to Kyoto.
Neighborhood
Your Pavilion near Kinkakuji
The area around the accommodation is close to the old-fashioned shopping street in Kyoto (pink-coloered in the map below). There are 2 supermarkets, a drug store, a post office, and a convenience store within a few minutes’ walk, so you can complete your life in this area alone. There are many places of interest, such as a small obanzai (Kyoto home-made) restaurant and cafes where locals go, a popular noodle shop even Tokyo residents visit, aburi-mochi (small dumplings) at Imamiya Shrine, and a public bath with an open-air bathtub. Daitokuji temple is just a couple of minutes away.
The nearest subway Kitaoji Station is a bit away (1km), but it is directly connected with a large bus terminal and the largest shopping mall in the northern part of the city and accommodates restaurants, major supermarkets, home electronics mass retailers, large bookstores, etc. You can enjoy cycling, jogging, and walking at the Kamogawa river park and the Kyoto Botanical Gardens (and the fashionable Kitayama-dori avanue on the north side) is just on the other side of the river. If you use a free rental bicycle at the property, any location on this map is not difficult to visit.
My pavilion to Arashiyama and Gion & Nanni Saiin Machiya
The two accommodations are located in a quite residential area but you’ll hit Shijo street, the city’s one of the major streets in about two minutes walk. Saiin area is the larlgest downtown in the west and you can enjoy casual restaurants and bars at reasonable prices. On a rainy day, take a walk in the Sanjokai shopping street with an arcade. There are two supermarkets within 1 – 2 minutes walk.
